Ankara, the capital of Turkey, is a city with many different districts. The district I want to talk about today is called Hamamonu. It’s easy to get to and has an amazing history that you can explore while you’re there.
It was first settled in the Hittite period as an agricultural village called Puranda-Kulliye (with kulliye meaning ‘monastery’). When it became part of the Ottoman Empire in 1459, its name changed from Purada-Kaliliye to Kalikaliya after Sultan Mehmed II conquered it.
Ankara is a city of many different cultures and backgrounds, it’s home to the largest number of museums in Turkey. The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations offers visitors an experience like no other with its vast collection that includes over 130,000 artifacts. The Eymir Trail Big Loop is one of the most scenic hikes in Iceland. It takes about 8 hours to complete and covers a whopping 63 miles (102 km) of incredible Icelandic terrain. The trail starts at Þingvellir National Park, which is also known as “the place where the law was made.” In ancient times, this park served as an assembly site for Norse leaders and lawmakers.
